What Goes Into Creating The Weekly Analysis?

Every weekday I read 4-6 different news reports and newsletters. I collect interesting excerpts from them during the week for the first page in my weekly analysis.

I start my data download each weekday at 4:30 in the afternoon. As long as everything goes well, downloading the data and updating the TLD charts runs until about 7:30. If there are errors, I have to rerun parts of it by hand, but mostly it runs by itself.

In general, I spend 8-12 hours writing and rewriting the analysis each weekend. Sometimes it takes longer. I start by adding the charts to it on Friday evening as soon as all the market data is in and the website charts are up.

I teach a tai chi class for senior students on Saturday morning. After I rest and have some lunch I get back to work on the weekly analysis. That session usually runs about 6-8 hours. Page 6, and especially copying the data into the cells of the two tables in the “Top ETFs by Slope” section, takes the most work. That takes as much time and effort as the “Analysis” section below the tables.

If I don’t get finished with the weekly analysis by 10:30 PM or so, then I get up at 7:30 on Sunday and work on completing it. Once it’s done, I try to set it aside for 30-60 minutes before proofreading it and making final corrections. Then I try to email to my readers by noon. (Big emphasis on “try”. I think I’ve gotten it sent out by noon twice this year. 🙂
